Imagine travelling half way round the world to a farmhouse kitchen in a remote part of Umbria and your hostess is waxing lyrical about her Kenwood mixer. There on the bench stands the mixer and it is used everyday. "I just love it!" says Cristina Spada "the whole family (she lives with her sister and brother-in-law and mother) we use it all the time, I have had it for years, I use it for whipping up egg whites, making bread and nearly every day we make a fresh cake".

In the Italian kitchen a cake is often found on the bench to have with coffee for breakfast. "Often that is all we will have for breakfast - coffee is important and the cake goes well with it and it's so easy with the mixer. I never put it away and it has always been a faithful friend."
